Family owned/operated vineyard and tasting room located in Montpelier Station, Virginia near historic James Madison’s Montpelier. Please join us at the Training Barn Tasting Room as we celebrate our legacy of horse racing champions along with our newest champion Woodbrook Farm Vineyard wine.
We have a light fare of food to offer; cheese and crackers or charcuterie meats. There are food establishments located in the town of Orange who will deliver to our venue, or you may bring your own picnic. No outside alcohol is allowed under VA ABC Laws. Please do not bring outside food during our special events when we have a Food Truck. Thank-you!
In 1950, Delmar Twyman, our grandfather, moved his family to his mother’s property in Montford, Virginia. Delmar was an elite horse showman who was inducted in both the Virginia Horse Shows Association Hall of Fame and the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame. Noel Twyman, who began riding at the age of 2 years old, followed in the footsteps of his father and was also inducted in both the Virginia Horse Shows Association Hall of Fame and the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame. Noel’s passion of Show Hunters changed to Race horses in the late 60s, when he began riding Steeplechase horses for Marion DuPont Scott. This then led to Noel creating a successful business in breaking and training 2 yr old Thoroughbred race horses and Steeplechase race horses of which established Woodbrook Farm. This legacy of champions inspired the family of Noel Twyman to embark on a new adventure of champion Virginia Wines. The “Training Barn” that was built in 1982 is now the home to Woodbrook Farm Vineyard’s wine tasting room. Vaughan Jenkins and Robert Twyman (Noel’s children) and their spouses Noel Jenkins and Carey Twyman began the renovations in August of 2021. We would love for you to come visit to hear more of the stories of our history, see beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and most importantly taste great wines.
The vineyard was planted in April 2022. The initial planting covered 5 1/2 acres and includes the following varietals: Petit Manseng, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In May 2023, we added a 1/2 acre of Norton to round out the total under vine to 6 acres.
We provide traditional tastings at the bar for a personal interaction as well as a variety of flights that can be taken to an area of your choice to sit, sip and enjoy.
Join us this Sunday for our monthly Old Time Jam session starts at 2 pm!
